HORNELLSVILLE, NY – Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard reports that there was a slow moving tractor driving on Route 36 last night, between Hornell and Canisteo.
The tractor was towing a hay baler, and a car came up from behind and drove into the hay baler. According to the sheriff, there are no skid marks on the road, to indicate that the driver tried to brake the car. Sheriff Allard says the driver is in critical but stable condition at Strong Memorial Hospital, after being airlifted there.
Sheriff Allard warns drivers that with warmer weather, expect an increase in farm equipment traffic and be aware that the farm vehicles will move more slowly, and please drive slowly and safely around farm machinery.
