July 9, 2015

ALFRED, NY – There is some good news for both Alfred State College and Alfred University.   Governor Andrew Cuomo announced this morning that Alfred University is getting 2.8 million dollars.  The money will go towards completing the high temperature lab at Alfred University.

The governor also says that Alfred State College will be getting half a million dollars for the Wellsville campus, for new equipment purchases.

State Senator Cathy Young is pleased for the economic development in Allegany County.  “Today’s announcement of funding for Alfred University and Alfred State College is exciting news for economic development in Allegany County,” said Senator Young.  “The Center for High-Temperature Characterization at Alfred University, and the Sustainable Advanced Manufacturing Center at Alfred State College’s Wellsville Campus, will provide students using these facilities with a world-class education in state-of-the-art practices for advanced manufacturing. Manufacturing remains an integral part of our economy in the Southern Tier, and preparing people of all ages for careers in fields where good-paying jobs are open immediately is an important step in jump-starting our state’s economy.”
