Anna Eileen Crosby, formerly of Hornell

HORNELL-Anna Eileen Crosby, 93, formerly of E. Washington St., and a resident of Brookdale Fairport Assisted Living Facility in Fairport, passed away Thursday afternoon (March 24, 2016) at Highland Hospital in Rochester, after a short illness.

Born in Hornell on March 19, 1923 she was a daughter of the late Matthew and Margaret (Fritz) Hargreaves. On May 8, 1946 she was married at St. Ann’s Church in Hornell to Robert L. Crosby, who predeceased her on August. 17, 1985, after 39 years of marriage.

A lifelong resident of Hornell, Eileen has resided at Brookdale Fairport Assisted Living Facility since November of 2013.

She was a graduate of St. Ann’s School and Hornell High School, class of 1941. Besides being a devoted homemaker, Eileen was also employed for several years in the cafeteria at the former Columbian School in Hornell.

Throughout the years she volunteered her time as a Cub Scout Den Mother, a Campfire Girl Leader, a religious education (CCD) teacher, and as a member of the St. Ann’s School Mothers Club.

Eileen was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and was a devout communicant of St. Ann’s Church in Hornell. For many years she was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court St. Ann No 194.

She loved to garden, sew, knit, crochet, as well as any other crafts. Eileen will also be remembered for being a good cook and for enjoying family get togethers where she would often participate in playing games with her children and grandchildren.

Her loving family includes her two sons, Michael (Rhonda) Crosby of Champagne, Ill. and Casey (Luanne) Crosby of Rochester; her three daughters, Margaret (Dale) Foster of Loda, Ill, Theresa (Raymond) Watson of Tucson, Az. and Joanne (Kirk) Baker of Beebe, Ark.; her special nephew, Robert Clancy of Hornell along with several other nieces and nephews; also her 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Donald and Mary Agnes Crosby of Hornell.

Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Emmett Clancy; as well as several other brother-in-laws and sisters-in-law.

The Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc. in Hornell is honored to serve the family of Anna Eileen Crosby.

Calling hours are 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell. Friends are invited to meet her family at St. Ann’s Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Committal prayers and interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Town of Fremont.
