Arkport Village News

April 17th, 2018

ARKPORT, NY – The Arkport Village Board met Tuesday evening and heard reports from various departments within the village.

Code Enforcement Officer Bill Rusby reported that two building permits were issued for the month of March, with one permit issued so far for April. Also reported were of the 28 fire inspections scheduled to be done, 21 have been completed with 7 left to go. This has brought in fees totaling $425. Rusby also announced that there will be a planning board meeting in the village Wednesday night, April 18th at 6pm.

DPW/Water Dept. head Joe Dwyer that there are some citizen concerns with the condition of Sullivan Street. The village will look into repaving it when the weather permits. The Ford F450 and F550 trucks run by the village are in need of new ball joints and the village should plan for their replacement. Also, the Meadowbrook Road shoulders need to be graded with a crusher when the weather breaks. Dwyer continues to rid the village of brush around the village since the last snowstorm, and much debris still plague the cemetery and park.

On a positive note work has been progressing nicely on replacing the bulbs, cleaning the shield and replacing the outdated circuitry on the UV water treatment system at the Water Plant. Dwyer was also happy to report that he has now received his class C and D Operator’s Certificate for the Water Plant and hopefully after another 6 months it will be able to run under his license.

Cathy Smith who runs the Book Center reported there were a total of 204 books checked out for the month of March with 55 people visiting the book center, and 88 children visiting from Lisa’s Daycare for Storytime.

In the resolution portion of the meeting three were passed:
1-Authorization was given to Mayor Charlie Flanders to sign all easements and all required documents relating to phase 2 of the Capital Water Project.
2-The village will now re-levy unpaid water bills to Steuben County to be placed on the 2018 village resident’s taxes.
3-A General Fund, Water Fund and Capital Fund Supplemental Appropriation were approved.

The next monthly meeting will be held on May 15th, 2018 at 7pm.
