Bonnie J. Norton, of Canisteo

CANISTEO: Bonnie J. Norton, 81, of Spruce Street, passed away peacefully Sunday morning, Oct. 29, 2017, surrounded by the comfort and love of her family, at St. James Mercy Hospital following a brief illness.

Bonnie was born November 17, 1935 in Hornell the daughter of the late Ronald and Gladys (Mattoon) Gibson. On May 29, 1954 in Canisteo, she married William P. Norton who predeceased her in October of 2007.

Bonnie was a life-long resident of the Canisteo area. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and enjoyed the company of her family and friends. She was a communicant of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Hornell, a life member of the Canisteo American Legion Woman’s Auxiliary, and a member of both the Hornell Women of the Moose and the Hornell Association.

Bonnie was an avid reader of all sorts, she also enjoyed knitting, traveling and frequenting many area Flea Markets. For many years she and her husband enjoyed their winter months in Florida with her late sister Maureen Schroeder.

Bonnie is survived by a son and daughter-in-law Patrick and Kathy Norton of Canisteo, a daughter and son-in-law Mary Ann and Thomas Cortese of Coatesville, Pa. three grandchildren, Shawn Norton, Kristin Cortese (Desiree Catania) and Kelly Cortese, two great grandsons, Jackson and Austin Norton. Bonnie is also survived by a brother, Michael Gibson of Maryland, brother-in-law Jerry Raffard of Honeoye and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a son, David Norton, three sisters, Mary Hope Scotti, Elaine Gendreau and Maureen Schroeder.

At Bonnie’s request there will be no calling hours, friends and family are invited to a memorial mass on Saturday Nov. 4 at 11:00 am at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Hornell. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Woodlawn Cemetery in Canisteo.
