Canisteo Fire Contract Update

December 14, 2015

CANISTEO, NY  – The Canisteo town board met in their monthly session Monday night and the hot topic was the proposed fire contract from the village for services. The current contract ends December 31, and according to the board a lot of questions need to be answered before they sign a new contract. Because of the purchase of a brand new fire truck by the village the rate for Howard (ambulance services only), Hartsville, and the town of Canisteo have all risen substantially. Questions the board wants answers to are how the rates for each municipality were determined, making sure they are only paying their proportionate share, and if there is any possibility of renegotiating some or the entire contract. The board plans to meet with village officials for answers to these questions and then hold a public hearing on the matter.

The board unanimously approved bookkeeper Lee Dickey as the new tax collector for the town.

Also a public hearing was held on Local Law #2 prohibiting parking of vehicles obstructing town highways from November 1st to April 1st for the removal of snow and ice. The vote was two for and two against and therefore the resolution was not passed.
