Canisteo Man Charged With Arson

CANISTEO, NY – Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard reports that the sheriff’s office and Canisteo Police, have charged Steven N. Drake, 22, of Union Street, Canisteo, New York. Sheriff Allard says that it is alleged that Mr. Drake intentionally damaged a building by starting a fire. The sheriff says that Drake created a grave risk of death to another person. “The arrest was the result of an investigation by the Steuben County Fire Investigation Team, Steuben County Sheriff’s Office and the Village of Canisteo Police Department of a reported house fire at 7 Union Street, Canisteo, New York. The fire was found to be incendiary and intentional in nature.” Drake is charged with Arson in the Third Degree, a class C Felony and Reckless Endangerment in the First Degree, a class D Felony. Officials say that Drake was arraigned in the Canisteo Village Court and remanded to the Steuben County Jail in lieu of $1,000 cash bail.

Sheriff Allard thanks the members of the Canisteo and South Hornell Volunteer Fire Departments for their quick response to this fire and the Village of Canisteo Police Department for their assistance in this investigation.
