Canisteo Signs Police Contract – And Are Looking For New School Resource Officer

CANISTEO, NY – Canisteo Village Mayor Bill Tucker will be meeting with C-G superintentant Jeremy Palotti next week to discuss the replacement for former school resource officer John McNelis. Officials say that the position is village appointed and possible appointments and financing will be discussed at the meeting between Palotti and Tucker.

The village will soon be coming up with new or revised Fire and Ambulance contracts with the towns of Canisteo, Hartsville and Howard. The contracts will be three years in length.  Also, the village board ratified and agreement with the Canisteo PD local 9250 for June 1, 2015 through May 31, 2018.

The Canisteo summer recreation program is in full swing and the village board was pleased to report that as many as 75 kids will be participating. The program last six weeks. There is also a week summer reading program that runs concurrent.

Mayor Tucker told the board that the sluice pipe on Pine street could be failing and the village is up in the as to who is responsible financially for repair/replacement. They are currently in talks with attorney Chauncey Watches and will have an answer soon.

The board passed a resolution to allow $149,957 to be used for the Safe Routes to School project. The money will be used for numerous upgrades such as sidewalk improvements.

There will be a public hearing on Monday, Aug 3rd 2015 at 6:50pm on the renewal of the current franchise agreement with TWC.
