Carmella E. Parlavecchio, of Hornell

HORNELL-Carmella E. Parlavecchio answered her call on Tuesday, May 12th, 2015 following surgery at Strong Memorial Hospital. So many hearts are feeling sadness because she was here, and because she was loved.

Born in Hornell on September 17, 1924, she was the daughter of Rosario & Lucy (Salerno) Parlavecchio.

Carmella grew up in Hornell and attended St. Ann’s School. She was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and a communicant of St. Ann’s Church.

She was employed for many years at the former Merrill Hosiery in Hornell and later was employed at St. James Mercy Hospital as a SPD Technician. Following her retirement she enjoyed baking and cooking for family and friends. She especially loved decorating during the holidays and enjoyed rooting for the New York Yankees and Buffalo Bills.

Carmella leaves a legacy rich in compassion and caring as a caregiver for her mom and sisters. She possessed an incredible capacity for generosity.

In addition to her parents, Carmella was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Anthony Parlave, James Parlavecchio and Sam Parlavecchio; 3 sisters, Mary Parlavecchio, Rose Macaluso and Josephine Cipola.

Surviving are 2 sisters, Ann Parlavecchio of Hornell and Rachel Parlavecchio RSM of Hornell; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

At Carmella’s request there will be no prior calling hours.  Family and friends are invited to attend a Prayer Service conducted by Sr. Rachel Parlavecchio and Sr. Livia Ann Ruocco on Sunday, May 17, 2015 at 7:00 PM at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY.  Private graveside service will be held on Monday at St. Ann’s Cemetery.

Carmella’s family request that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name be made to St. Ann’s Academy, PO Box 446, Hornell, NY 14843. Memorial forms will be available at the Dagon Funeral Home. In addition, we are all requested to simply open our hearts to the needs around us, especially the poor and elderly.

Carmella, God has given you in His keeping — We have you in our hearts!
