Clay Drake, of Hornell

HORNELL-Clay P. Drake, 15, of Mill St., passed away unexpectedly Wednesday (August 6, 2014) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

Born in Hornell, November 7, 1998, the son of Vaughn and Kathleen Finan Drake, he was a lifelong Hornell resident. Clay would have been entering his sophomore year at the Hornell Senior High School next month and was active on the Football, soccer, and track teams. Clay traveled to Europe last year where he made several more good friend. He was planning on attending Medical School following his graduation from High School. He was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and a communicant of St. Ann’s Church. Clay was also an avid hunter and loved long boarding.

He was predeceased by his brother, Vaughn Drake in 2012 and paternal grandparents Winford “Buster” and Adele Drake.

In addition to his parents Clay is survived by his brother and best friend, Devan Drake of Hornell, as well as his brother, Justin Drake of Hornell, two sisters, Pamela Reid of FL and Jamie Drake of Hornell, maternal grandparents, Joseph and Joan Finan of Painted Post, several nieces and nephews and host of good friends in the Hornell area and around the world.

The family will be present to receive friends on Sunday, (August 10, 2014) from 2-4PM and 6-8PM, at the Bender – Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St, Hornell. Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of life service at the Hornell High School Auditorium on Monday at 11 AM. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fremont.

The family requests that those wishing consider a contribution to the “ Clay P. Drake Memorial Scholarship Fund”, % Vaughn Drake, PO Box 36, Canisteo, NY 14823. This will finance a yearly award to any graduate of the Hornell Senior High School entering the medical field.
