Clyde Quick, 93, Canisteo

CANISTEO/CATATUNK: Clyde B. Quick, 93, went home to be with his Lord Sunday (Dec. 22, 2013) at St. James Mercy Hospital where he was surrounded by the comfort and love of his family.

Clyde was born October 2, 1920 in Hornell to Otis C. and Bessie J. (Gray) Quick. On October 23, 1938 in Dansville, he married the former Georgetta P. “Peg” Stage who predeceased him in June of 2007. He was also predeceased by a son Gerald Quick, an infant daughter Geraldine Quick, daughter Bethel Brown, infant grandson, Robert B. Quick, infant great, grandson, Quinton McCourt and a great granddaughter Amber Quick, also a sister: Anah Burse and a brother Harold Quick.

Clyde was a lifelong resident of the Canisteo Valley. He served our country proudly during WWII in the US Army Third Armored Division from 1944-45 where he attained the rank of Sergeant. He owned and operated Quick’s Auto Service on Second St. in Canisteo from 1953-1960 and in 1959 became mechanic and transportation supervisor for the Canisteo Central School District for 23 years retiring in 1982. He was a former Commander of the Canisteo American Legion for 2 years, and at one time was a Trustee, Deacon and Sunday school teacher at the First Free Will Baptist Church in Adrian. Besides working for the Canisteo School District Clyde enjoyed farming on his Catatunk farm where he raised beef cows, cut lots of firewood and always enjoyed the helping hands of his family and friends. Clyde’s strong Christian devotion and faith will always be a comforting testimonial for his family and friends with the hope and love that will endless be.

Survivors include three sons: Daniel (Judy) Quick of Catatunk, Kenneth (Nancy) Quick of Adrian and Robert “Otis” (Laura) Quick of Catatunk, two daughters: Joyce Sharp of Canisteo and Shirley (William) McCourt of Adrian and a son-in-law Richard Brown of Catatunk. Clyde is also survived by two brothers Eldon Quick of Macedon and Shirley Quick of Hamburg, one sister Audrey (Harold) Dunn of Catatunk, 22 grandchildren, 49 great grandchildren, 22 great, great grand children and one great, great, great granddaughter, several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 PM Thursday at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home, 29 East Main St. in Canisteo. A private family funeral with military honors will take place at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in the Bennett’s Creek Cemetery in the town of Greenwood.
