Common Core Update

Common Core update: Governor Andrew Cuomo has named the members of his Common Core review panel. The panel is made up of about a dozen officials, who have backgrounds ranging from being IBM chairman to a college professor at Monroe Community College. Two state lawmakers are also on the panel: State Senator John Flanagan was named by the senate, and Assemblywoman Catherine Nolan who was named by the assembly. Nolan is reportedly a supporter of Common Core who is for a 2 year delay. Senator Flanagan is said to be even more pro-Common Core: they say Flanagan has a closed-door policy to those who are against common core.

The State Board of Regents handles a lot of the decision making about Common Core, and Newsday dot com is reporting that some state lawmakers are warning that the re-appointment of 4 members of the board regents, might not happen, because of their handling of Common Core.
