Conservative Party Boss To Back Astorino
The boomlet for Donald Trump for governor has taken a major hit. Conservative Party boss Mike Long now says he will support Robert Astorino for the Conservative nomination.
Long says that Trump, who has indicated he will not enter a primary against Astorino, shows he cannot be considered a serious candidate to oppose Democrat Andrew Cuomo.
Astorino is the Westchester County Executive but GOP insiders say he lacks both the name recognition and money to unseat Cuomo.
Still undecided is the role of Mike Paladino of Buffalo who has threatened to run for the Conservative nomination if Trump is not the nominee of the GOP. Should that happen, whatever chances Astorino has would be even further diminished.
