David C. Dungan, formerly of Hornell

BATH/HORNELL-David C. Dungan, 54, passed away early Thursday morning (Jan. 28, 2016) at his home in Bath, after a short illness.

Born in Hornell on Nov. 25, 1961, he was a son of the late Charles and Helen (Button) Dungan. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his sister, Beverly Dungan, his brother, James Dungan and his nephew, Joshua Kahn.

A resident of the Bath and Hornell area for most of his life, Dave was a graduate of Haverling Central School in Bath and also attended Corning Community College.

He was formerly employed by Dominic’s Bakery in Canisteo and as a supervisor for the Burns Security Company at the Steuben County Office Building in Bath. For the past 11 years he was employed as a residential counselor for Pathway’s, Inc. in Corning.

Dave loved animals, especially dogs, and trained two dogs for the Guiding Eyes for the Blind.

His loving family includes his wife of seven years, the former Stephany A. Odell, who he married in Bath on May 17, 2008; his five children, Cory (Ainsley) Dungan of Batavia, Ashley Dungan of Sarasota, Fla., Jacob Odell, Matthew Dungan and Haylee Dungan all of Bath; his granddaughter, Coral Dungan; his three sisters, Ruth (George) Sloan of Dundee, Patty (Bill) McGee of Avon and Kathleen Covert of Hornell; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Glenn and Phyllis Odell of Hornell; also his many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

The Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc. in Hornell is honored to serve the family of David C. Dungan.

Calling hours are 4-6 p.m. Tuesday at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell, where a funeral and committal service will be held in his memory following calling hours at 6 p.m. Tuesday with Rev. Kathy Jo Dye of Prattsburgh officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Almond, at the convenience of his family.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in his memory to the Guiding Eyes for the Blind, Southern Tier Region, 7301 Stagecoach Road, Dansville, N.Y. 14437.
