Dolores (Mowers) Sheon, of Hornell

HORNELL-Dolores (Mowers) Sheon, 95, formerly of 1190 County Route 66, Green Acres Mobile Home Park, passed away peacefully early Friday afternoon (Sept. 5, 2014) at Hornell Gardens, where she has resided since 2011.

Born in Hornell on May 24, 1919, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin Bowers and Mabel Demmery Bowers. On Jan. 28, 1939 she was married to Louis G. Mowers, who predeceased her on Aug. 20, 1971, after 32 years of marriage. Later, on Sept, 5, 1981 she was married to Jesse Sheon, who predeceased her on April 23, 1992 after nearly 11 years of marriage. Besides her parents and husbands, she was also predeceased by her two brothers, Arthur Bowers and Howard Bowers and her sister, Phillis Trosper.

A lifelong resident of Hornell, Dolores was a graduate of St. Ann’s School and was employed at the former J.C. Penney store and at Marion Rohr’s in Hornell.

She was a very devout communicant of the former St. Ignatius Loyola Church and most recently at St. Ann’s Church of Our Lady of the Valley Parish in Hornell.

Dolores will be remembered most of all for being a very loving and caring mother and grandmother.

Her loving family includes her son, Gary L. Mowers of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; her daughter, Julie (Fay) Vincent of Arkport; her five grandchildren, Kelly (Sam) Brunacini of Rush, Angie Vincent of Rochester, Todd Vincent of Dansville, Gary Mowers and Kristy (Jeff) Wenzel all of Edgewater, Fla.; her
12 great-grandchildren; her two sisters, Helena Barr of Lowman and Evelyn Lucas of Mississippi; also her nieces and nephews.

The Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc. in Hornell is honored to serve the family of Dolores (Mowers) Sheon.

Calling hours are 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell. Friends are invited to meet her family at St.
Ann’s Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m.
Wednesday. Committal prayers and interment will follow at St. Ann’s Cemetery, Hornell.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in her memory to either Our Lady of the Valley Parish, 27 Erie Ave., Hornell, N.Y. 14843, to the American Cancer Society, 13 Beech St., Johnson City, N.Y. 13790 or to St.
