Erin F. O’Brien, of Canisteo

CANISTEO: Erin F. O’Brien, 50, of Creekside Dr. passed away Sunday (June 22, 2014) at his home surrounded by the comfort and love of his family after a valiant fight with cancer.

Erin was born November 29, 1963 in the town of Urbana, to Brian and Eleanor (Brown) O’Brien. On July 5, 1986 he married Valerie Sharp who survives and resides in Canisteo. He was predeceased by his parents and a brother Thomas Trail.

Erin was a graduate of Addison Central school class of 1982. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving our country from 1982-85 and was employed for nine years as a machinist at the Corelleware division of World Kitchen in Corning. Erin was also employed for 13 years with the Alstom Co. of Hornell. He was a member of the Corning United Steelworkers Union Local 1000, and for many years offered his time coaching Little League Baseball and volunteering his time helping with Boy Scout Troop 83 in Canisteo. Erin was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish with his family and friends.

In addition to his wife Valerie O’Brien of Canisteo, Erin is survived by two sons: Robert A. O’Brien of Boston, MA. Ryan F. O’Brien of Canisteo, two daughters: Siearah L. O’Brien of Waterloo and Shannon O’Brien of Canisteo, one granddaughter Ellie E. O’Brien. He is also survived by his step-mother: Dorothy O’Brien of New Symrna Beach, Fl.,6 brothers: Brian “Tim” O’Brien of Bath, James O’Brien of Houston, TX. Michael (Nadja) O’Brien of Hammondsport, Kevin O’Brien of Bath, David (Kim) O’Brien of Winchester, CA. and Christopher (Dorothy) Trail of Bath and 4 sisters: Coleen (Ray) Bettinger of Decator, ILL. Cindy (Lester) York of Canaseraga, Nanette (Nolan) Davis of Henrietta and Valerie (Jesse) Flint of Canaseraga.

The family will receive friends from 1-3 and 6-8 PM Friday at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home, 29 East Main St. in Canisteo. A funeral service will take place Saturday at 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church in Canisteo. Burial will be in the Smith Cemetery in the town of Cameron with Military Honors.
