Fatal Accident Near Wellsville

ALLEGANY COUNTY, NY – State Police report that there was a fatal fatal accident in the Town of Independence.

It happened early this morning, shortly before 2am.  According to state troopers, a vehicle struck a deer and exited the north side of the roadway. State Police say that the vehicle continued down an embankment before striking large rocks and coming to rest partially in a creek bed.  The driver, a male, was pronounced at the scene and his female passenger was airlifted to Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo with serious injuries.
UPDATE: 2:33pm: State Police have released the names of the accident victims from the early morning car/deer accident in the Town of Independence. State Police say that the driver, Dylon R. Mitchell, 19 of Independence, was pronounced dead at the scene.
 
Troopers also report that the passenger Kami B. White, 17 of Wellsville, was airlifted to Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo with serious injuries but is in stable condition.
