Fire Chief Dan Smith: Firefighters Went Above And Beyond Last Night

October 11, 2017

HORNELL, NY – Hornell Fire Chief Dan Smith says that at one point last night, during the fire at the Hornell Salvation Army Thrift Store, he almost made the decision to pull the fire fighters out of the building. “I was about ready at one point, to pull them out, because I thought, ‘it’s just a building, we’re not going to lose anybody in here,’ but they kept going, and they got it. I was very proud of them.” There were no injuries.

The Hornell Fire chief reports that the Hornell Fire Department, who were assisted by Canisteo and South Hornell fire departments, worked to keep the fire from spreading to the show room section of the Salvation Army Thrift Store, and Fire Chief Smith says that the building there can be saved.
