Gerald P. “Dobber/Fuzzy” Hall, of Hornell

HORNELL- Gerald P. “Dobber/Fuzzy” Hall, 80, of E. Main St. passed away Thursday morning (April 21, 2016) at St. James Hospital In Hornell.

Born in Bath on October 20, 1935, he was a son of the late Claude and Myrtle Hall.  On December 11, 1955 he married the former Sylvia Shepard, who predeceased him on January 15, 2001 after 45 years of marriage.

Gerald graduated from Canisteo Central School in 1954 and went on to proudly serve his country in the U.S. Army from 1955 to his honorable discharge in 1958 and was stationed in Panama. After his active duty he served in the Army Reserves for many years.

He worked for the Bath VA, the Erie Railroad, G.E. and retired from Morrison Knudsen in 1998.  Gerry loved to spend time with his family and friends. He loved traveling to visit family and had the best memories of his family cruise. Gerry enjoyed cooking and baking and will always be remembered for his special birthday cakes and his famous zucchini recipe.

Gerald was a member of the Arkport America Legion and the Hornell Association.

His loving family includes his four children, Dennis Hall, of Hornell, Kristen (Christopher Doran) Hall both of Arkport, Robert (Karen) Hall of Virginia and Andrew Hall of Florida; his four grandchildren, Nicole Turner Hall of Hornell, Lewis Hall of Florida, Hannah Doran of Rochester and Andrew Doran of Hornell; his three great-grandchildren, Derek, Isaac Hall of Hornell, Xavier Hall of Florida; his brother, Paul Seward, his sister, Millie Doell; his many In-laws, Jean Shepard, Kay Day, Philip (Lisa)Shepard, Susan (Joseph)Pelych  all of Hornell,  Sharon (Ron) Miazga of Middleburg, Joan (Mickey)Alvord of Georgia, Tracy (Fritz)Kelly of Wellsville, Steve Shepard of Illinois, Lynn (Tom)Bob of Canisteo and Patti (Mike)Spangler of Tennessee; also many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents and wife, he was also predeceased by his three sisters Bobbie Sedore, Ruby English and Bernadine Whiteman, his daughter-in-law Shirley Hall and his two brother-in-laws Stanley Shepard and Jim Day.

A special thanks to K&K Auto, the Arkport Legion and to all his caregivers at McAuley Manor, St. James Hospital and Strong Memorial Hospital. He had hoped to thank you all personally with his baked goods.

The Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc. is honored to serve the family of Gerald P. Hall.

Calling hours are from 4-7 p.m. Monday (April 25, 2016) at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell, where funeral services will be held on Tuesday  at 11 a.m. with Pastor Barre Butts officiating.

Committal prayers and interment, with military honors, will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Canisteo.

In lieu of flowers , those wishing may contribute in his memory to the Arkport American Legion Post 1248, 1 Carter St., Arkport, NY 14807. Envelopes for memorial contributions will be available at the funeral home.
