HORNELL-Helen E. Strong, 90, formerly of 199 East Ave. passed away Tuesday (August 19, 2014) at the Hornell Gardens.
Born in Stanford, NY, July 22, 1924, the daughter of Edward and Marguerite (George) Oliver, she had resided in Hornell since 1945. Helen had been employed as a waitress at the former Sherwood Hotel in Hornell as well as the Big Elms Restaurant in Hornell. She will be fondly remembered as a greeter at the Hornell Walmart Store. She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church of Hornell.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Harold Strong in 1995, her sisters Avis Terry, Evelyn Colburn, and Vivian Foutch, her brother Clifford Oliver, her daughter, Elaine Mullen, her daughter-in-law, Bonnie Maxson, Grandsons, Stephen Maxson, and Richard Maxson, her great grandson, Matthew Lovell, and great niece Danielle Dyer.
She is survived by three sons, Edward Maxson of Elmira, Robert (Joanne) Maxson of Hornell, and William (Darlene) Maxson of Florida, her sister, Dorothy Zeh of Oneonta, her son-in-law, Michael Mullen of Canisteo, eight grandchildren, James “Jimmy” Maxson, Christopher Maxson, Becky (Jesse) Norton, Michelle (Gary) Lovell, Michael Maxson, Sandra Ogorzalek, Jason (Hattie) Mullen, Chad (Tammie) Mullen and 11 great grandchildren, several step children, and step grandchildren, several nieces and nephews including Deanna Baron.

Honoring Helen’s wishes there will be no calling hours. Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service at the Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St., Hornell, NY on Saturday at 2:00PM with Deacon Robert McCormick officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Canisteo, NY
