Hornell May Have A Water Leak

Possible Water Leak in Hornell
March 20, 2014

HORNELL NY – The Hornell Board of Public Works today, met and discussed the possibility of a water leak somewhere within the city’s water supply. Water treatment plant Chief Lenny Fucci reported that the city is going through about 3, 000,000 gallons of water per day, noting that there have been a couple of days 3.2 millions gallons have been used. The City usually consumes an average of 2.2 million gallons per day, which points to a possible leakage in the supply. Mayor Hogan pointed out that the last time there was a significant overusage such as this, a leakage at Chapmans turned out to be the problem.

The city has recently fixed an eight inch line on grand street, and a six inch line on Platt street that were leaking. Sometime after April 1st, the city will begin to check all 42 miles of city water lines in search of the leak.
