Hornell Moves Forward with Housing on Thacher Street Extension

September 19, 2016

HORNELL, NY – The Hornell Common Council formally passed a resolution to rezone a parcel of property located next to Shawmut Park from light industrial to residential at Monday nights common council meeting. Mayor Shawn Hogan expressed the need for more housing in the future and said this would be an ideal location for the construction of multi family dwellings. One council member questioned why Hogan would change the status of the property and Hogan responded, “We have ample properties in the south yards for business, manufacturing expansion.” “With the future expansion of Alstom, housing will be a needed commodity in the Hornell area in the near future and this is an ideal location.” Hogan also gave an insight to future projects such as a bike trail trail and bridge that are in the planning stages.
