Hornell Police Giving Away Halloween Candy

October 10, 2017

HORNELL, NY – Statement From the Hornell Police Dept, about Halloween Safety:

The Hornell Police Department will be joining in on the Halloween fun this year. The Police Department will be handing out Halloween Trick or Treat bags from now until Halloween. The bags are reflective for your child’s personal safety and will also have a few goodies inside. Please stop by and pick one up anytime, day or night.
Here are a few Halloween safety tips:
• Plan your Trick or Treat Route ahead of time. Pick streets that are well lit and have neighbors you know.
• Go with a parent or other supervising adult.
• Do not go into houses or get into cars of people you do not know.
• Try to Trick or Treat while it is still light out
• When dark, carry a flashlight, glow sticks and/or use reflective tape on your costume
• Wear a costume that doesn’t hinder your walking or your eyesight
• Cross only at corners when it is safe. Never cross the street between parked cars or in the middle of the block.
• Stay with your group or supervising adult. Do not run ahead as you may get lost.
• Know your address and phone number in case you get lost.
• If you have a phone pre-program emergency numbers in it in case you need them.
• Have a parent or other adult inspect your candy when you get home to make sure it is safe.
• Drivers, please slow down and be extra careful during Trick or Treat hours!!!!!

We at the Hornell Police Department wish everyone a safe and happy Halloween !!!

Capt. Mike Sexsmith
