HORNELL N.Y.- The Hornell Board of Education met Monday night and approved the 2014-15 budget proposal in the amount of $35, 573,492.00 that will now go the City of Hornell voters for final approval. The budget will be a slight increase in taxes at the rate of 46 cents over last years tax rate for city residents. Superintendant Doug Wyant, noted that the tax rate now will stand at 2.56 % over the levy, 3.36 % is the current tax cap and the district is well under that amount.

The school board also approved a resoluton to add two more seats to the Board of Education, changing the number from the current level of five to seven seats. Board President Scavo noted that the addition would make the board more efficient, adding that it would allow the board to break up into committees to discuss different resolutions and proposals, which would streamline the overall performance of the Hornell Board of Education.
