HORNELL, NY – The Hornell School Board of Education met Wednesday night, on the agenda; a revenue shortfall of $275 thousand dollars which leaves the district working to make budget cuts. Patrick Flaitz, School district business official, estimates that even with the cuts, taxpayers may see an increase in their school tax bill of $0.77 cents per thousand on their assessed property value in order to meet the 36 million dollar proposed budget that will be voted on in May by city residents.
However those numbers could change because the tax rate is set in September, Flaitz noted that last year that tax rate was actually lowered by five or six cents per thousand, because the assessed value of district property owners was actually higher than projected in the spring.
