Irena “Maxine” Henry, of Hornell

HORNELL: Irena “Maxine” Henry, 89, of Crosby Creek Rd. passed away Saturday (Jan. 13, 2018) at St. James Mercy Hospital.

Maxine was born December 14, 1928 in the Town of Alfred to the late Forest J. and Emily P. (Ormsby) Henry. On November 30, 1946, she married Levi “Glayson” Henry who predeceased her on March 22, 1972. She was also predeceased by a son Rickie Lee Henry, granddaughter, Terah Patricia Guthrie, brothers: James “Bud” Richard Henry and Forest Duane Henry, sisters: Edna Mae Kull, Louise J. Lewis and Betty J. Stephens.

Maxine was a life-long resident of the Alfred area where she had been employed in custodial work at Alfred University for over 20 years. She was a thoughtful and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend, who very much enjoyed the company of her family and friends. Maxine was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Hornell.

Survivors include four daughters: Candice (David) Eldredge of Stanley, Sharon (Stephen) Patton of Houston, TX. Connie (Matthew) Zetts of Sparta, N.C. and Patricia (John) Guthrie of Hornell. One son: David (Shaune) Henry of Almond, daughter-in-law: Gerri (Luke) Quinn of Chesterfield, MI., two sisters: Roxie Ann (John) Robards of Howard and Mildred Beverly Stoughton of Alfred. Brother-in-law, Harland Stephens of FL. sister-in-law: Lois Olecharski of Burns, 24 Grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:30 am Saturday (Jan. 20) at the River of Grace Ministries, 81 Elm St. in Hornell, where a funeral service will take place immediately following calling hours at 11:30. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Alfred, NY.

Arrangements are with the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home in Canisteo.
