James C. Rauhe, formerly of Fillmore

NEW HOLLAND: James C. Rauhe, 82, of New Holland, formerly of Media, PA, passed away Thursday, July 12, 2018 at WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital after a brief illness.

Born in Fillmore, NY, he was the son of the late Clinton and Isabel (Dower) Rauhe. As of April 18, 2018, Jim was married 58 years to Joyce (Lamphier) Rauhe.

Jim began his career as a teacher in the Webster Central School District in Webster, NY and later served as Principle in the Lockport School District in Lockport, NY, the Roosevelt Elementary School in Media, PA, the Rose Tree Elementary School in Media, PA, and the Forwood Elementary School in Wilmington, DE.

He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in New Holland and a former member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Lenni, PA where he served as Eucharistic Minister. He enjoyed reading, sports, live theatre, traveling, birding, and especially his grandchildren. He also served his country in the National Guard in New York for a time.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, David Rauhe of Aston, PA, Douglas Rauhe of Santa Cruz, CA, two granddaughters, Cassidy (Rauhe) Thomson married to Justin Thomson of Smithville, NJ, and Kali Rauhe of Arlington, VA, and two sisters, Elizabeth Lindsay of Rochester, NY, and Sylvia Hober married to Robert Hober of Martinez, GA.

Preceding him in death are two sisters, Mary Rauhe, and Dorothy (Rauhe) Burton.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on July 17, 2018 at 11 am at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 150 Water St., New Holland, PA with visitation from 10-11 A.M.

Family and friends are invited to a graveside service on Friday, July 20, 2018 at 2:00 pm at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Canisteo.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to one of Jim’s favorite charities to honor him: Care International, Save the Children, or the American Indian College Fund.

Local arrangements are in care of the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home in Canisteo.
