REXVILLE: James W. “Jim” Ahearn, 80, of Rough & Ready Rd. passed away peacefully Thursday morning (March 15, 2018) at his home after an extended illness.
Jim was born December 3, 1937, in Coudersport, Pa. to the late John James and Maude Arming (Butler) Ahearn. On June 6, 1959 in Rexville he married the former Louise Brown who survives and resides in Rexville.
Jim had worked as a machinist at the former Ingersall Rand in Painted Post for 8 years after which he became a union carpenter for A.L. Blades Construction of Hornell, retiring after 30 years of employment. He then worked for 17 years in the maintenance dept. for Southern Tier Express of Greenwood. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army proudly serving our country from 1957-1959.
He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Rexville and was in charge of the churchyard cemetery in Rexville for many years. He was a member of the West Union Vol. Fire dept. where he was fire chief for 12 years. Jim was fun loving and loved to pick on everyone and crack jokes right till the very end. He was also a warm and compassionate man who loved his family and enjoyed their company. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
In addition to his wife Louise, Jim is survived by his seven children, Annette (John) Mills, Jeffrey (Deb) Ahearn, Gina (Bradley) Hoyt, Lynelle (Brett) Williamson all of Greenwood, Joseph (Wendy) Ahearn of Rochester, Louann (Matt) Griffin of Fremont and KrisAnne (Ted) Nadelen of Medina, NY.
16 wonderful grandchildren, Michael and Shawn Mills, Alison and Christopher Ahearn, Kevin and Jason Hoyt, James and Shane Griffin, Luke, Jacob, Ethan and Genna Williamson, Olivia and Teddy Nadelen, Bryce and Corey Miller, and seven great-grandchildren. Jim is also survived by three sisters, Kathryn Goers of Florida, Jennie Sebring of Elkland, Pa., and Irene Stevens of Coudersport, Pa.
Jim was predeceased by four brothers, Paul, John, Michael and Timothy Ahearn and two sisters Edith Barker and Mary Seymour.
There will be no public calling hours, friends and family are invited to a Mass and Christian burial, Monday, March 19, at 10:00 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Rexville. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Churchyard Cemetery, Rexville.
Memorial contributions in Jim’s name may be made to either: Gigi’s Playhouse, 372 Goodman St. N. Rochester, N.Y. 14607 (in memory of Owen Hoyt’s great-grandfather) or to Our Lady of the Valley, (St. Mary’s Catholic Church) Rexville, N.Y. 14877.
