Joan H. Halsey, of Greenwood

GREENWOOD: Joan H. Halsey, 79, of Church Hill Rd. passed away peacefully Friday (Sept. 19, 2014) at her home surrounded by her family after an extended illness.

Joan was born June 19, 1935, in Jasper, to Merrill and Florence (Maine) Holt. On August 28, 1953 in Wellsville, she married Robert F. Halsey who predeceased her in March of 1979.

Joan was a graduate of Greenwood Central School and was a member and very active at the Greenwood American Legion Auxiliary Post #1425. She was employed as a cook at Alfred State College retiring after 27 years of service. Previous employment included working at the former Big N department store in North Hornell, Westinghouse Co. in Bath and upon retirement helped at the Updyke Willowridge Home in Hornell. One of her very special times throughout life was camping with family and friends.

Survivors include a son: Brad (Melody) Halsey of Greenwood, two daughters: Jolene (Wayne) Hess of Westfield, Pa. and Terri Halsey of Greenwood, four grandchildren; Crystal (Justin) Vallieres, Brett (Sheleena) Halsey, Robert (Libby) Loveless and Jennie Hess. One great granddaughter: Kennedi Vallieres. Joan is also survived by three brothers: Stanley (Joanne) Holt and Shirley (Joyce) Holt all of Greenwood, Arnold (Peggy) Holt of Jasper, two sisters: Sharon (David) Allen and Charlene (Robert) Davenport all of Greenwood along with several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 4-7 PM Monday at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home, 29 East Main St. in Canisteo where funeral and committal services will take place immediately following calling hrs. at 7 PM. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Greenwood, N.Y.
