John B. Cardamone, Sr., of Hornell

HORNELL-John B. Cardamone, Sr., 84, of Cedar St., passed away, in the presence of his loving family, early Tuesday morning (March 15, 2016) at St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell.

Born in Hornell on Jan. 31, 1932 he was a son of the late Frank and Frances (Gangemi) Cardamone. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his brother, Samuel J. Cardamone on April 14, 1988.

A lifelong resident of Hornell, John resided on Elm Street for 53 years before moving to his home on Cedar Street.

He was a graduate of Hornell High School, class of 1951 and was employed by the former Erie and Erie-Lackawanna Railroads before retiring from Conrail in 1990 as a caller and clerk. John was also employed part-time as a meat cutter at the former DiNardo’s Meat Market in Hornell and after his retirement he became employed for 16 years with Simmons-Rockwell as a driver.

Johnny was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and was a communicant of St. Ann’s Church in Hornell.

His loving family includes his wife of 63 years the former Mary Theresa DiNardo, who he married at St. Ann’s Church in Hornell on Oct. 22, 1952; his three sons, John B. Cardamone Jr. and Francis (Elizabeth) Cardamone all of Hornell and William (Lynne) Cardamone of Daytona Beach, Fla.; his six grandchildren, Maryjo Burd of Charlotte, N.C., John (Deidra) Cardamone of Jarrettsville, Md., Michael Cardamone of Daytona Beach, Fla., Domenic, Grace and Richard Cardamone all of Hornell; his three great-grandchildren, Tommy Burd, Cody and Anthony Cardamone; as well as several other relatives in Rochester.

The Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell is honored to serve the family of John B. “Johnny” Cardamone.

Calling hours are 4-7 p.m. today (Thursday) at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell. Friends are invited to meet his family at St. Ann’s Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday. Committal prayers and interment will follow at St. Ann’s Cemetery, Hornell.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in his memory to St. Ann’s Church of Our Lady of the Valley Parish, 27 Erie Ave., Hornell, N.Y. 14843. Envelopes for memorial contributions will be available at the funeral home.
