Karen S. Young, of Arkport

ARKPORT-Karen S. Young, 70, passed away peacefully on Tuesday (July 14, 2015) at her home in Arkport.

 

Born in Dansville on Sept. 23, 1944, she was a daughter of the late Edwin and Rhea Sleggs Luce. On Oct. 6, 1962 she was married in Arkport to Lyle E. “Jumbo” Young, who predeceased her on March 10, 2010 after 47 years of marriage. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her two sisters, Kay Ericson and Kathy Pearce; her brother, Gaylord Luce; her two sisters-in-law, Lois Hendee and Janet Young and her two brothers-in-law, Donald “Red” Stewart and Richard Young.

 

A graduate of Canaseraga Central School, class of 1962, Karen has resided in Arkport for most of her life.

 

She was employed as a clerk for the United States Post Office for 30 years in Arkport and Hornell.

 

Karen enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles and loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

 

Her loving family includes her four children, Amy Miller of Clinton, Mass., Amber (William) Phelps of Arkport, Andrea (Chris) McClure of Corning and Jay Young of Arkport; her five grandchildren, Meghan Rauber, Thomas Miller II, Rees Miller, Jared Roosa and Aidan McClure; her step brother, Gary (Darlene) Luce of Florida; her two sisters-in-law, Jennifer Luce and Shirley Stewart both of Dansville; her two brothers-in-law, Jack Hendee of Hornell and Skip Ericson of Texas; also her nieces, nephews and cousins.

 

The Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc. in Hornell is honored to serve the family of Karen S. Young.

 

To honor her wishes there will be no calling hours. A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family.
