Kathryn K. Weiman, of Almond

  ALMOND-Kathryn K. Weiman, 74, of the Turnpike Road, Almond, formerly of Hornell and Canisteo, passed away Friday afternoon (Sept. 11, 2015) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

 

Born in Hornell on Jan. 19, 1941, she was a daughter of the late Peter Hansen of Denmark and Helen Reynolds Hansen of Hornell. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her sisters, Julia Leman, Vivian Henry, Isabel Almeter, Pearl Almeter, June Peters, Jean Shaw, and Dora Gillette.

 

A graduate of Hornell High School, class of 1959, Katie received an associate’s degree in Psychology from Alfred State College and a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Alfred University.

 

She was first married to Royce Leland Kilmer on May 1, 1959 and raised her four children on the Willow Bend Farm in Canisteo where she resided for 21 years.

 

Katie’s second marriage was to Donald N. Weiman on June 30, 1984 and she resided with him in Almond for over 31 years.

 

Before her retirement in 1995 she was employed at Alfred State College at the Hinkle Memorial Library as a library associate.  She continued as an Employee Assistance Program coordinator at the college for several years after her retirement.

 

Katie enjoyed gardening, reading, knitting, bird watching and caring for her pets. Besides enjoying vacations nearly every winter in the Caribbean, she also made frequent trips to California to visit her sister; however the greatest joy in her life was her family, they were everything to her.

 

Her loving family includes her husband of 31 years, Don; her three sons, Jeffrey Leland Kilmer, Steven Mark Kilmer (Jessica) and Allen Michael Kilmer all of Canisteo; her daughter, Denise Kilmer (Durwood) Schutt of Rochester; her 13 grandchildren, Jared Kilmer, Lindee (Cody) O’Dell, Rebecca Hartwell, Erika Kilmer, John Kilmer, Joseph Kilmer, Kyle Kilmer (Tonya Drake), Jacob Kilmer, Isabella Kilmer, Racquel Kilmer (Matt Thibodeau), Courteney (Mike) Buchinger, Allen Kilmer, Jr., and Cameron Schutt; her eight great-grandchildren; her sister, Sylvia Hansen of California; her nieces, nephews and her mother-in-law, Roslyn F. Weiman of Rochester.

 

A service will be held in her memory, for family and close friends, at 10 a.m. Sunday at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell, with the Rev. Robert Corsaro officiating.
