Lillian L. Spencer, formerly of Greenwood

GREENWOOD/HORNELL-Lillian L. Spencer, 92, a former resident of Greenwood, passed away Tuesday evening (April 7, 2015) at the Hornell Gardens.

 

Born in the Town Of Jasper, December 16, 1922, the daughter of Roy and Nina Kernan Stephens, she had resided in Greenwood for several years, later moving to Green Acres Park in Hornell, She was a graduate of Greenwood Central School, class of 1941. She had been employed as an attendance clerk at the Greenwood Central School, prior to her retirement in 1977.

 

Lillian served her country as a member of the WAVES, a part of the United States Navy during World War 2. Lillian was known as an excellent housekeeper, and especially enjoyed gardening, her flowers, and most of all she enjoyed her family. She was a member of the Greenwood United Methodist Church.

 

She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Earl Spencer in 1998, as well as two brothers, Glenn and Elmore Stephens.

She is survived by her daughters. Beverly Spencer of Almond and Joan Titus of Hornell, her sister-in-law, Ruth Speed of Canisteo, 2 grandchildren, Sean (Jill) Titus of Gettysburg, PA, and Shelby (Dan) Zaparzynski of Hornell, one great grandson, Josiah Titus, nieces, nephews and cousins.

 

The family will not be observing public calling hours. Friends are invited to attend a funeral service at the Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 6 Spruce St., Canisteo on Friday (April 10, 2015 at 11 AM. Rev. Daniel Knopf will officiate. Burial will be in Bennetts Creek Cemetery.
