February 12, 2017

GENESEO, NY – The LCN.com reports that the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office is getting a 40,000 pound bullet proof vehicle. (Sheriff) “Dougherty cited a scenario last year in which members of the department’s SWAT team – a unit of deputies and sergeants who serve in other Sheriff Office divisions and have a secondary assignment to the special unit – road in the open and exposed back of a pickup truck while executing a raid on an alleged drug dealer. ‘That bothered me, and I’ve been thinking about what we needed ever since,’ Dougherty said,” according to the LCN. The Livingston County News page also reported that the 40,000-pound Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicle, developed to protect soldiers in Afghanistan and Iraq from IED attacks, was obtained from the U.S. Department of Defense through the federal 1033 Program.
