CANISTEO, NY – There are many local rumors going around, that one or both of the two escaped prisoners from Clinton Correctional Facility in Clinton County, New York, might possibly be hiding in the Canisteo area.
However, at this point, this is only speculation and rumor.
The word on the street is that one of the suspects has a relative in the Canisteo area.
That is also unconfirmed.
All we can definitely report at this point is this:
Numerous sources say that 8 state police vehicles were seen in a parking lot in Canisteo this morning.
We contacted state police in Bath, who said the following:
“State Police are following all leads across the state. We cannot confirm or deny specific information regarding (the search in) this area.”
The suspects are Richard Matt, 48, a 6′ tall white male, 210 lbs, black hair and hazel eyes. He has several tattoos. The other suspect is 34 year old David Sweat, a 5’11, 165 lbs white male, brown hair and green eyes. He also has tattoos.
Both suspects were serving time for homicide, and both are considered dangerous. Governor Andrew Cuomo and State Police both say that the suspects are not to be approached or confronted.
However, we must repeat that it is unknown if there is an actual search going on in Canisteo, NY, as of this online posting, at 12:18pm, Sunday afternoon, June 7, 2015.
