HORNELL-Marian J. Mehlenbacher, 86, of Crosby St., passed away Wednesday afternoon (Feb. 4, 2015) at McAuley Manor in North Hornell, where she has resided since 2010.
Born in Groveland on Dec. 28, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Eldora Rynders Jackman. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her daughter, Penny Bassage and her sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy (Robert) Bielefeld.
A former resident of Cohocton, Marian was a graduate of Avoca Central School and graduated in 1974 from St. James Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Hornell.
She has resided in Hornell since 1964 and was employed for 20 years at the former Bethesda Community Hospital in North Hornell as a LPN and later as a RN from 1974-1986, serving in various positions throughout her career. She loved being a nurse and was very dedicated to her job.
Marian was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Cohocton as well as the Cohocton Eastern Star.
Some of her favorite past times included, collected sea shells and doing jigsaw puzzles.
Her loving family includes her husband, of 64 years, James Mehlenbacher, who she married in Dansville on Sept. 9, 1950; her four children, Betsy Schultheis and Brenda Davis both of Battleboro, NC, Steven (Polly) Mehlenbacher of Almond and Patty “Tiger” (Mark) Moore of Hornell; also her 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Calling hours are 1-4 p.m. today (Sunday) at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell. Friends are invited to meet her family at Zion Lutheran Church, 20 S. Dansville St., Cohcoton where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday. Committal services and interment will follow at the Zion Luther Cemetery, Cohocton.
