Mary L. (Barnes) Ellis, of Arkport

  ARKPORT-Mary L. (Barnes) Ellis, 65, of Willey Road, passed away Tuesday evening (Aug. 9, 2016) in the presence of her loving family, at Unity Hospital in Rochester, after a sudden illness.

Born in North Hornell on April 10, 1951, she was a daughter of the late Charles Lincoln Barnes and Stella Rice Barnes. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her infant brother, Charles Lincoln Barnes; her sister, Peggy McDonald and her sister-in-law, Kathy Barnes.

A graduate of Hornell High School, Mary also graduated from Steuben-Allegany BOCES where she became an LPN; she was employed at the former Bethesda Community Hospital in North Hornell and later at Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville.

Mary was a long time active member of the Larger Parish Church in Canaseraga and also was a member of Campers Haven in Bath where she enjoyed spending time camping.

She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed attending all of her grandchildren’s sporting events.

Her loving family includes her husband of 46 years, Rodney L. Ellis, who she married on June 27, 1970, at the former Spencer United Methodist Church in Hornell; her two daughters, Wendy (Shannon) Milliman and Tonya Ellis (fiance, Jeff Shutt) all of Hornell; her four grandchildren, Griffin and Graysen Milliman and Gavin and Kaiden Ellis; her two sisters, Anne (Seth) Corwin of Hornell and Bonnie Barnes of Bath; her brother, Lincoln (Elaine) Barnes of Hornell; also several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours are 3-6 p.m. Saturday at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell. Friends are invited to meet her family at the Larger Parish Church, 20 Pratt St., Canaseraga where a funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday., with Pastor Jess Flint officiating. Interment will be in Heritage Hill Cemetery, Arkport.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in her memory to the Larger Parish Church, 20 Pratt St., Canaseraga, N.Y. 14822. Envelopes for memorial contributions will be available at the funeral home.
