Merger Vote Fails

November 14, 2018

Although the merger vote was successful in Arkport, with 344 yes votes and 180 no votes, it failed in Canaseraga, where there were 285 no votes, 193 yes votes. Statement From Canaseraga Central School Superintendent Chad Groff:

On behalf of the Canaseraga Board of Education, I would first and foremost like to thank our residents for coming out in record numbers to exercise their right to vote. I would also like to thank our school board and merger committee members for their work during this process. As we continue as a single school district, we will strive to continue to offer our students a solid education and seek to build on the good things we have for our students. As was mentioned in numerous meetings, Mr. Harper and I will continue to work together in the areas we can to provide enhanced opportunities for our students.

Statement From Arkport Central School Superintendent Jesse Harper:
“I’d like to thank those who took the time to vote today on this important issue,” Arkport Superintendent of Schools Jesse Harper said. “As the number of students in the region continues to shrink, we must and will explore every option available to us for educating our children in a cost-effective way. And Arkport will continue to do so.”
