Politico.com is reporting that the NYS Department of Education has created the position of, and hired, a Privacy Officer. The Privacy Officer will oversee statewide policies about protecting students from their personal data from being hacked or leaked. Data is the personal information about students, which is collected as a part of Common Core.
According to Politico, the duties of the Privacy Officer will include: leading investigations into security breaches and privacy-related emergencies, providing technical assistance, establishing a protocol for submitting complaints of possible breaches of data and working with the state education commissioner to develop regulations for data security and privacy.
