September 13th, 2018

HORNELL, NY – Hornell Police Chief Ted Murray informed the Board of Public Safety  that the city’s Police  Dept. has recently received their new service weapons and training at the firing range will begin immediately.

The department is changing over from the Smith & Wesson brand of guns to Glocks. Murray said for the local residents of the firing range to not be surprised if they hear multiple gunfire in the coming weeks.

In addition to the new weapons, the HPD also received a new patrol vehicle. A brand new all-wheel drive Dodge Charger will soon be taking the streets of Hornell.

In other news Fire Chief Dan Smith announced that the HFD will start participating in the Steuben County EMS Mutual Aid Plan. According to Smith, Hornell decided to participate in the program to help insure better response times in emergency situations.

With this plan, if an emergency medical service is needed and the first contacted agency cannot respond in a timely fashion, the call will be relayed to the next closest department.

This program is designed to allocate resources and provide patients with efficient and time sensitive services. The proper medical care for the sick and injured is the primary scope of this plan.
