Patricia M. Crane Babcock, of Hornell

HORNELL: Patricia M. Crane Babcock, 74, of Maple Court Homes passed away peacefully Saturday (March 11, 2017) at her home surrounded by her family after an extended illness.

Pat was born November 1, 1942 in Hornell to the late William and Mary (Reagan) Allen. She was also predeceased by a son David Nield.

Pat had lived the majority of her life in the Canisteo Valley where she was a graduate of Canisteo Central School. At the age of 50 she attended Corning Community College to further her education earning an Associates’ Degree in Human Services, she also received her Certified Alcohol & Substance Abuse Counselor’s’ certification. (CASAC).

She was an assistant Counselor for 10 years serving as a per diem staff member in the inpatient unit at MATCH at St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell. She had worked for MATCH for 11 years and had 13 years of work experience in the area of substance abuse addictions. Pat also worked at Steuben County Alcohol Substance Abuse Services, the Net in Bath where she worked with victims of domestic violence, and Kinship where she worked as a counselor in a halfway house. She was also a former member of the Board of Directors for the Steuben Churches Against Poverty (SCAP). Pat will be remembered as someone who demonstrated genuineness, empathy, respect and commitment for helping individuals diagnosed with substance abuse problems and their families.

Pat enjoyed her work, canning, and making her special Salsa that was always a favorite by all! But her greatest love was her family. She thoroughly enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great granddaughter.

Survivors include two daughters: Renee’ (A.J.) McKee of Canisteo, Kathleen Crane of Irondequiot, two sons: Roy (Pamela) Forshee of Canisteo and Kevin (Christine) Forshee of Eldersburg, Md. 10 wonderful grandchildren: Gary and Miranda Forshee, Tiffany (Bryan) Wise, Kayla and Taylor Forshee, Tara and Aaron McKee, Bethany, Shealyn and Cameron Forshee. One great granddaughter: Savannah Sills.

Pat is also survived by: three brothers: Thomas (Judy) Allen of Fort Worth, TX. William (Carol) Allen of Millstone Township, N.J., Timothy (Kerry) Allen of DesAllemanes, LA. five sisters: Nancy (Barry) Moon of Savona, Mary Ann (Linwood) Poray of Rochester, Cynthia Ahrens of Bath, Carol (James) Buffum of Johnson City and Cathy (James) Mayo of Arkport, as well as several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 pm Thursday at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home, 29 East Main St. in Canisteo where funeral and committal services will take place Friday at 11:00 am with Deacon Robert McCormick officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Canisteo.

There will be a luncheon at “The Main Place” at 251 Main Street, Hornell, NY immediately following the funeral service.
