Plumb Recalls Challenger Space Shuttle Incident

ALLEGANY, NY – Jamestown Democrat candidate for Congress John Plumb stopped by a science fair at the Challenger Center, in the Cattaraugus County Town of Allegany on Thursday. “The Challenger Learning Center is an educational jewel of the Southern Tier, exciting our district’s next generation of scientists and engineers,” said Plumb. “STEM education is key to bringing 21st century jobs to our region.”

Plumb, a 22-year veteran of the Navy and Navy Reserve, attended the University of Notre Dame on a Navy ROTC scholarship and graduated with a degree in physics. After leaving active duty, he continued his studies earning a PhD in Aerospace Engineering. “I was proud to honor the memory of the Challenger space shuttle crew by participating in today’s science fair,” said Plumb.

The Space Fair was hosted by the Dresser-Rand Challenger Learning Center on January 28, 2016 near Saint Bonaventure University. Entries were submitted by students in grades 2-8.
