Richard L. “Rick” Brown, Jr. of Hornell

HORNELL: Richard L. “Rick” Brown, Jr. 56, of River St. passed away unexpectedly Monday (June 27, 2016) at his home.

Rick was born March 21, 1960 in Hornell to Richard L. and Bethel (Quick) Brown.

He was a life long resident of the Canisteo Valley graduating from Canisteo Central School in 1979. He started his working career at the former Home Builders Hardware Store in Canisteo and ServiStar in Hornell. During high school, through the BOCES program, he learned to weld which gave him his start at the former G.E. Plant in Hornell. From there he worked at M&K, Siemens and Alstom Companies where he worked his way up from welding to production and management. In 2005 he opened and operated the RBI Sports Pub on River St. in Hornell.

Rick’s outside interests from work included landscaping, gardening and farming and being an avid Buffalo Bills fan.

Rick was predeceased by his mother Bethel Brown in 2011. He is survived by three daughters: Jennifer Brown of Canisteo, Sabrina Jones of Hornell and Yvonne Payne of Arkport, one son: Matthew Brown of Rochester, four grandchildren: Nicholas, Kadyn, Ayden and Skyler. He is also survived by his father Richard L. Brown, Sr. of Catatunk, four brothers: Willis (Bonnie) Brown, Kenneth (Diane) Brown, Michael (Carla) Brown all of Catatunk and Ray (Wendy) Brown of Webster and sister: Peggy (Gale) Miles of Canisteo. Several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 pm Wednesday at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home 29 East Main St. in Canisteo, where a funeral service will take place Thursday at 11:00 am with the Rev. Archie Smith officiating. Burial will be in Bennetts Creek Cemetery, Greenwood, N.Y.

Memorial contributions in Rick’s name may be made to either the Canisteo Vol. Fire Dept. 35 Main St. Canisteo, N.Y. 14823 or to the CVC Christian Fellowship Church, c/o Sharon Woodard, 3515 Cty. Rte. 119, Canisteo, N.Y. 14823.
