Robert C. “Bob” Thompson, 51, of 2332 Turnpike Rd., Hornell, died Saturday afternoon (February 15, 2014) following a long illness.

Born in Hornell on August 26, 1962, he was the son of Carlton & Dorothy (Bartle) Thompson.

Bob grew up in Hornell and was a graduate of Hornell High School. Following graduation, he enlisted in the US Army and faithfully served his country for the next four years. After his honorable discharge from the US Army, he decided to further his education by enrolling in the Wellsville Division of SUNY Alfred where he majored in computer technology.

Bob was employed for a time as a truck driver for Canada Dry Corporation in Hornell and later as an auto technician for Gardner’s Auto of Almond and the Bath Auto Group. For the past 12 years, he owned & operated Hi Tech Computers of Hornell.

Throughout the years, Bob attended both St. Ann’s Church and Living Waters Church. He was a member of the Hornell American Legion and was an avid hunter. He served as Cub Scout Leader and Scout Master of the Boy Scouts of America.

Bob had a deep love of music and served as sound engineer for the Band “Daze End” and also donated his time as sound engineer for many bands at charity events.

A true & devoted friend to all, Bob was always willing to help out when his friends had a problem with their cars or computers. He will be sadly missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Carlton & Dorothy Thompson and also his brother, Keith Thompson.

He was married on May 21, 1994 to the former Heather Bement who survives. Also surviving are 4 children, Michael Thompson of Canandaigua, Nichcole (Thomas) Harris of Hornell, LCPL Nathan Donahue of Jacksonville, NC and Colby Thompson of Hornell; 1 brother, Bill (Martha) Bartle of Fremont; 2 sisters, Debra (Steve) Kerr of Hornell and Judy (Glenn) Patterson of Canaseraga; 4 grandchildren, Brendan Thompson, Damion Thompson, Adrianna Thompson and Aynsley Harris; his mother-in-law Rae (Dr. Byron) Collins of Canisteo; his father-in-law, William Bement of Arkport; his sister-in-law, Beth Rovitio of Reynoldsburg, OH; many friends, nieces & nephews.

The family of Robert C. “Bob” Thompson will receive friends on Wednesday from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 11:00 AM at St. Ann’s Church.

Bob’s family request that memorial contributions in his name be made to the American Cancer Society, 13 Beech St., Johnson City, NY 13790. Memorial forms will be available at the Dagon Funeral Home.

In honor of Bob’s service to his country, the American Flag at the Dagon Funeral Home will be flown at half-staff.
