Robert E. Cole, of Canisteo

CANISTEO-Robert E. Cole, 77, of Bennett Street, passed away Wednesday (January 6, 2016) at St James Mercy Hospital.

 

Born in North Hornell, March 26, 1938, the son of Chester and Louise Clark Cole, he was a graduate of the Hornell High School class of 1956. In 1955 Bob joined the US Army National Guard and retired after 33 years of service as a Command Sergeant Major for the Battalion. Bob was employed as an engineer for the New York State Department of Transportation retiring in 1993 following 32 years of service. On December 31st, 1960 at the former St. Ignatius Loyola Church of Hornell he married the former Linda Willey who preceded him in death on October 15, 2015 after 54 years together. Bob and Linda had resided in Canisteo since 1968. He was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and a communicant of St. Ann Church in Hornell, where he served on the Parish Council. Bob was also a member of the Hornell AMVETS.

 

He was predeceased by his parents, his wife, one son Michael Cole, three sisters Margaret Hamilton-Clark, Nancy Lewis and Elizabeth Hirt, and one brother Phillip Cole.

 

He is survived by three daughters, Mary Frances (Barry) Thompson of Greenwood, Jane (Ron Rhude) Lorow of Hornell and Deanna (Chet Bull) Cole of East Greenbush, NY, his son, Robert (Renee) Cole Jr. of Massachusetts, daughter-in-law Michele, his brother Andris (Barbara) Cole of Westminister Maryland, three sisters Christine (August) Cavaletti, Ann (Richard) Kloss and Susan ( Robert) Cawley all of Hornell, two brothers-in-law Cliff (Joan) Willey of Maine and Charles Hirt of Massachusetts, 15 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

 

The family will be present on Sunday, January 10, 2016, from 1-3PM and 5-7PM at the Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 6 Spruce St., Canisteo, where Military Honors will be held at 6:30PM. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Anns Church 27 Erie Ave, Hornell on Monday, January 11, 2016 at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Freemont at a later date.
