Robert P. “Bob” Gennett, formerly of Canisteo

HORNELL / CANISTEO-Robert P. “Bob” Gennett, 88, formerly of 25 Russell St., Canisteo, died Tuesday afternoon (March 5, 2019) at Elderwood at Hornell Nursing Facility where he had resided for the past 7 months.

Born in Barre, VT on August 9, 1930, he was the son of Lawrence & Violet (Durett) Gennet.

Bob resided most of his life in either Vermont or New York State and had resided in the Hornell – Canisteo area for about 50 years.

Although Bob had no church affiliation, he was a very spiritual man. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing golf and had been a member of the Canisteo American Legion, the Hornell VFW, the Hornell Moose Lodge, Hornell Eagles Club and the Hornell Association. He especially enjoyed spending quality time with his friends at Southside Tavern in Hornell. In his younger days, Bob was a talented boxer and at one time held the title of Featherweight Champion of the Vermont Golden Gloves.

Bob was preceded in death by his longtime companion, Donna Booth who died July 29, 2018.

Surviving are his sister, Doreen Weeks of Vermont; Donna’s children, Eva (William) Boyles of Hammondsport and Hugh (Terry) Booth of Watertown, WI; along with many friends in the Hornell/Canisteo area.

At Bob’s request there will be no calling hours. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY.

Bob’s family request that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name be made to the Hornell Humane Society, 7649 Industrial Park Road, Hornell, NY 14843.
