HORNELL-Ruth Frances Kramer, 102, a resident of the Jewish Home of Rochester, formerly of Mays Avenue in Hornell, passed away, with family by her side, late Sunday evening (Nov. 26, 2017) at Highland Hospital in Rochester, after a sudden illness.
Born in Buffalo on Feb. 22, 1915, she was a daughter of the late Lewis and Rose (Ulrich) Crawford. On June 14, 1947, she was married in Geneva, N.Y. to Joseph L. Kramer, who predeceased her on Aug. 4, 1990, after 43 years of marriage. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her sister, Lila Fairbanks and her two brothers, Robert Crawford and Howard Crawford.
A graduate of Hornell High School, Ruth was a former resident of Hornell where she was employed by the Hornell Country Club, Steuben Trust Company, the Erie Railroad Accounting Bureau and the Cutler Insurance Agency. In 1988 she and her late husband, Joe moved to Oneida, N.Y., where she resided until moving to Rochester.
Throughout the years she enjoyed gardening, reading and watching Dancing with the Stars on television.
Her loving family includes her son, David (Gail) Kramer of Rochester; her daughter, Mary Jo (Howard) Astrachan of Oneida; her three grandchildren, Rachael (Gennaro) Colacino, Aaron (Laura) Astrachan and Leah (Nathan) Kayes; her six-great-grandchildren, Everett, Reece and Grayson Astrachan, Molly, Kathryn and Linley Kayes.

Calling hours are 11a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday (Dec. 9, 2017) at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell, where a funeral service will be held following callings hours at 1 p.m. Saturday with Deacon Robert McCormick officiating. Committal prayers and interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Town of Fremont.
