Senator Skelos Under Federal Investigation

April 16, 2015

ALBANY, NY – The leader of the Republicans in the New York State Senate is in the news again.  Time Warner Cable News and the New York Times are reporting that federal prosecutors have begun presenting evidence to a grand jury considering a case against Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos and his son, Adam.

The Times says Senator Skelos is suspected of using his position to influence businessmen to help his son, Adam Skelos.

The investigation is being done by U.S. Attorney Preet Bhahara and the FBI.  According to the NYT, Adam Skelos, who does insurance jobs and other work, got $20,000 from a company he never did work for, and may have been shown some favoritism in being hired for various projects.

The U.S. Attorney who is handling this case, helped bring down State Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, who had to resign from his speaker’s post, because of the investigation against him.

Opponents of the safe act will be happy with this news about Senator Skelos being under federal investigation, because the senator helped get the safe act passed.
