ALBANY, NY – State Senator Cathy Young (R,, 57th District) and Senator Kathy Marchione (R, Reform-Halfmoon), will be extending the appreciation of the New York State Senate to two brave New York State Department of Environmental Conservation officers, by having the Senate pause in its deliberations to memorialize Officer James Davey and Lt. Liza-J Bobseine upon the occasion of their designation as recipients of the Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the New York State Senate.
The recognition ceremony will take place at the start of Senate Session on Monday, June 12, 2017 in the Senate Chamber of the New York State Capitol in Albany, at 3pm today.
Senator Young noted that it was on November 29, 2016, Environmental Conservation Officers James Davey and Lt. Liza-J Bobseine were investigating a trespassing complaint and reports of illegal hunting with shots fired. During the course of their investigation, the two officers discovered fresh tire tracks in a field in the Town of Gallatin in Columbia County. While walking through the field under heavy fog and rain, they heard voices and bravely decided to approach them, at which point, ECO Davey was shot, suffering significant damage to his pelvis and associated blood vessels.
Lt. Bobseine, acting quickly, was able to apply a compress to the severe wound for more than one hour and call for medical support. Her swift response prevented significant loss of blood that would have otherwise cost Officer Davey his life.
Both will be honored today for their service to the D.E.C.
