January 9, 2014

CORNING, NY – WENY TV is reporting that the lockdown is lifted at Winfield, Northside and Gregg schools – and that dismissal will take place at all schools today. The lockdown started because of shots fired in the neighborhood area of one of the Corning schools, around 9am. The shots were not fired on school grounds.

Corning Police are looking for a suspect/suspect who are believed to have fired the shots.

UPDATE: Corning Police say they have made an arrest in connection with this incident. Police say Gisbert James Hanft, Jr., 21, had been shooting squirrels with a .22 rifle in the neighborhood. It was those shots that led to the lockdowns.
